WHAT’S NEW

In addition to the web site, we also try to send out an email update each month with more information and no pictures, and a newsletter a couple of times each year with information and pictures for those without web access.  You can sign up for either of these by clicking these links: NEWSLETTERS, UPDATES.  We have designed this page so that the most recent entries are on the top and we will date them so you will have a sense of the timing.  We will keep this year’s news on this page and move older stuff to the WHAT’S NOT SO NEW pages.

Colossians 3:23,24 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

Next Stop: As the Lord directs, praying over two opportunities.

Don had a fabulous ten days in Madison, GA working with our old friends at Source of Light.  He was assisting a work team from Cornerstone Bible Church of PA on several projects there.  Don was paired up with Barry, a retired electrical engineer, and together they reengineered and wired 6400 square feet of new office space.  They were assisted by Ken, a staff member, and John, a volunteer.

Pablo had just arrived from Argentina and was crying for joy as he found his adopted son, safe after the earthquake.  They went home together ten days later.  Little Christopher felt secure in  Christine’s arms.

These scenes were similar throughout the region as buildings everywhere looked as though they had been bombed.

Here are a couple of pictures of the bent hitch and broken fiberglass front shell.  Notice the propane tanks pushed into the front of the trailer and the frame rails bent down to where they are just inches above the pavement.

In the top right picture is Wayne from Midway Fabrications, Inc doing the welding after the rails were straightened and reinforced. After we arrived in Madison, GA, Chuck of New Finish, Inc repaired the Fiberglass shell.  Praise God for His provision.

Christine found herself helping in several different departments at SLM this Spring.  In this picture she is entering names and information into the computer so these new people can begin correspondence lessons.  Don is shown wiring one of the five new Heating/Air Conditioning systems that will control the climate in the remodeled first floor offices and dining hall.  Don is working with Joe, who stayed on for a couple more weeks from the Cornerstone team to help finish the HVAC systems.

We assisted a team from Cornerstone Bible Church of Nescopeck, PA and another from Yates Baptist Church of Lyndonville, NY.

Tech Serve International

May 21, 2010

Christine stayed on in GA and helped in several departments at SLM while Don drove to AR to help finish this new staff Cabin for Tech Serve.

The picture on the left is Don trimming around the windows.  He then went on to insulate and enclose the beams, outside corners, and where the roof joined the walls.  He also installed rain gutters and interior blinds.  Don was at Tech Serve for a total of two and a half weeks, and also did some work on a couple of the ministry’s vehicles.

Above, Quay, Steve, and Don forming up for a pad.  Below are three of the Dominicans mixing and pouring a pad.

The project at this Young Life Camp was to install about 2000 feet of high voltage underground cable in conduit, form & pour six concrete pads or vaults, install five transformers, connect four electrical panels, connect the new generator and transfer switch, connect all of the existing camp buildings, and provide sufficient capacity for the planned future expansion.

As is common to the Young Life Camps in the US, this property is beautiful and their goal is to spoil the teens that come here as they share Christ and His love with them.  The picture below was taken from the balcony right outside our room.  The name Pico Escondido means “Hidden Peak” and in this picture it is indeed hidden by the clouds as it sits above and behind the peaks that you can see.

Source of Light Ministries

What a difference a day makes… Well actually it took two days to install the suspended ceiling and lights in the “Prayer Room” of Source of Light Ministries International.  Christine is pictured helping Don with the ceiling grid and tile so he didn’t have to continually climb up and down for all of the parts.  We started with the smallest room of 170 square feet, and were blessed by all the positive comments when the ceiling was completed.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be helping to install the heating and air conditioning ductwork, finish the electrical system, install another 4000+ square feet of suspended ceiling,  wire and install approximately 70 more light fixtures, and fabricate and install several hundred feet of aluminum trim.  We are praying that we can help finish this first phase of the project by the end of August so it can be inspected and occupied in time for the September 11th dedication service.  There are two other volunteers with Campers on Mission working on carpentry and flooring and several staff members pitching in as they are able while doing their other duties.  Even the Director, Dr. Bill Shade, has been painting walls and finishing doors.  We are also praying for a couple more work teams to come along side and get-er-done.

Then on to Phase Two… 11,000+ square feet of office upstairs.
